Kamp Rijen in 360°
To bring Kamp Rijen to life and make it engaging for all ages, four key locations were visualized in 3D and transformed into immersive 360-degree videos. Experiencing the camp from within gives a true sense of its scale! A local theater group provided the dramatic voice-overs for the videos, adding an authentic touch.
The following locations were chosen:
Kookkuilen
This 360-degree 3D animation shows how food was provided in the camp.
Tent van de prins
A 360-degree 3D animation of the tent of Prince Field Marshal (the future King Willem II) at the camp near Rijen.
Vermaak
This 360-degree 3D animation depicts life in the camp, focusing on entertainment for the soldiers.
Inkwartiering
This 360-degree 3D animation illustrates the quartering of soldiers with the residents of nearby villages, along with its consequences.
Mini-Documentary
In addition to the 360-degree experiences, a mini-documentary was created that depicts the history of Belgium’s separation from the Netherlands. It highlights the impact on the municipality of Gilze and Rijen and its residents, due to the establishment of a large military camp between 1831 and 1839.
Great Local Collaboration
Heemkring Molenheide took the initiative to share the fascinating story of Kamp Rijen with a broader audience. Expert and author Kees Verheijden contributed to shaping the content and lent his voice to the mini-documentary for added authenticity.
The local theater group, De Gilse Cast, brought the characters in the 3D visualizations to life with their voice acting. Not only was the recording process fun and full of laughter, but it also added an authentic touch to the project.
