A Mitch Hedberg classic: “Wherever I walk, people are tryin’ to hand me out flyers. When someone tries to hand me out a flyer, it’s kind of like they’re saying, ‘Here - you throw this away.’”
Have I told that one already? I hope not :-) And if I have, it’s short and still funny so… 🤷🏻♂️
Anyways… it’s too easy to fall into that trap at your booth. Fliers are easy! You know how to make them! They’re super satisfying to fold, and then at the end of the day you can look at your empty stack and say, “Ah! A job well done!”
Except… nobody wants that shit 😂
You gotta give the people what they want. If they want more info, literally take a second and send them an email from your phone. It can be a totally blank body with subject line “Hi!” Then you can follow up the next day with something that’s actually relevant to your conversation - just go in your sent messages and reply to every blank message you sent from the conference floor.
This has a few benefits:
gives you what you what you want (real conversations with real leads)
by waiting, your visitors get the chance to reach out to you
they also get your email and don’t have to dig through a giant stack of collected flyers buried in their carry-on
you save trees.
Message and data rates may apply though.
Try it out! LMK how it goes.
